Huangshan 5 Day Itinerary

Why this route

One thread holds this six-day line together: it opens on the water at West Lake in Hangzhou, works inland through Longyou Grottoes, Nianbadu Ancient Town, Root Palace Buddha Kingdom and Tianji Longmen, pauses at Qianjiangyuan National Forest Park, and only then delivers the stop that gives the trip its name — Huangshan Scenic Area — before Xidi and the closing pair of West Tianmu Mountain Scenic Area and Qingshan Lake. The mix changes from day to day: lake and gardens, then grottoes, an ancient town and a cultural site, then forest, then the mountain, then Xidi, then mountain and lake again. No two consecutive days lean on the same kind of sight.

The day split does the pacing work. Days 1, 2 and 6 are chaining days — five stops on Day 1 (7-11 listed hours), four on Day 2 (7-9 listed hours, plus Nianbadu Ancient Town, which carries no duration) and two on Day 6 (4-6 hours) — while Days 3, 4 and 5 each hold a single stop. That structure gives Qianjiangyuan National Forest Park its three hours outright and hands Huangshan Scenic Area and Xidi days of their own, with no fixed time listed for either.

Day by day

Day 1. The route opens with 3 hours at West Lake, then an hour on the Yangdi Scenic Route. Two further sights listed under the West Lake scenic area follow: the Former Residence of Gai Jiaotian (1 hour) and Guo’s Villa (one to three hours). Bayberry Ridge (one to three hours) closes the day. Listed visiting time: 7-11 hours across five stops.

Day 2. Four stops. Longyou Grottoes gets 3 hours, then comes Nianbadu Ancient Town, the one stop of the day with no duration listed. Root Palace Buddha Kingdom Cultural Tourism Area is allotted one to three hours, and Tianji Longmen another 3. The three timed entries total 7-9 hours before the ancient town is added on top.

Day 3. A single stop: Qianjiangyuan National Forest Park, with 3 hours allotted and nothing else scheduled.

Day 4. Huangshan Scenic Area is the day’s sole stop, and no duration is listed — the plan hands the whole day to it.

Day 5. Again a single stop, again with no duration listed: the day belongs to Xidi.

Day 6. The wind-down: West Tianmu Mountain Scenic Area for one to three hours, then Qingshan Lake for 3 hours — 4-6 listed hours across two stops.

Trade-offs

The cheapest cut is at the tail: drop Day 6 — West Tianmu Mountain Scenic Area and Qingshan Lake — and the itinerary becomes a straight five-day trip ending at Xidi. Within Day 1, the flex sits at Guo’s Villa and Bayberry Ridge: each carries a one-to-three-hour window, so holding both to the one-hour minimum pulls the day’s listed time down to about seven hours.

If five stops in one day is more chaining than you want, simplify Day 1 by cutting its two one-hour entries — Yangdi Scenic Route and the Former Residence of Gai Jiaotian — and keeping West Lake, Guo’s Villa and Bayberry Ridge. On Day 2, Nianbadu Ancient Town is the only stop without a listed duration, which makes it the schedule’s flex slot: shorten it there before touching the 3-hour visits to Longyou Grottoes or Tianji Longmen. Day 3, with its single 3-hour stop, is where the slack sits if earlier days run long.
