Jiuzhaigou 8 Day Itinerary

Why this route

This eight-day route holds together around one theme: the Tibetan borderlands, where monasteries, grassland, wetland and stone settlements sit against hard mountain scenery, before the route turns to the two scenic areas that anchor its second half, Huanglong and Jiuzhaigou. The first four days carry the borderland thread in sequence: Ganjia Secret Realm, White Stone Cliff, Bajiao City and Labrang Monastery; Sangke Grassland and Guomang Wetland; the paired Langmusi monasteries, Serzhi on the Gansu side and Kerti on the Sichuan side, plus Namo Gorge; then Zhagana with the Dari Viewing Platform, Fairy Beach and the Yellow River First Bend.

The day split does specific work. Days 1 and 4 are the only four-stop days; Day 5 pairs Lianbaoyeze (3 hours) with Gemo Monastery (1 hour); and the route then narrows to a single stop on Day 6 (Huanglong Scenic Area, 3 hours) and again on Day 7 (Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area, with no duration attached), so each reserve gets a day of its own. Day 8’s two 1-3-hour stops, Songzhou Ancient City and Taoping Qiang Village, are the route’s last scheduled visits.

Day by day

Day 1 opens with four stops, tying with Day 4 for the most of any day: 3 hours at Ganjia Secret Realm, then 1-3 hours each at White Stone Cliff, Bajiao City and Labrang Monastery.

Day 2 lists two stops: Sangke Grassland for 1-3 hours and Guomang Wetland for 1 hour.

Day 3 is the Langmusi day, with three stops: Serzhi Monastery (Gansu Langmusi) for 1-3 hours, Kerti Monastery (Sichuan Langmusi) for 1-3 hours, and Namo Gorge for 2 hours.

Day 4 again runs four stops: Zhagana for 3 hours, 1 hour at the Dari Viewing Platform, 1 hour at Fairy Beach in the Zhagana scenic area, and 1-3 hours at the Yellow River First Bend.

Day 5 pairs Lianbaoyeze (3 hours) with Gemo Monastery (1 hour).

Day 6 is a single-stop day at Huanglong Scenic Area, listed at 3 hours.

Day 7 belongs to Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area alone. It is the route’s only stop with no duration attached, so the schedule leaves the length of the visit open.

Day 8 closes with the route’s last scheduled visits: Songzhou Ancient City for 1-3 hours and Taoping Qiang Village for 1-3 hours.

Trade-offs

Day 1 stacks four stops, tied with Day 4 at four. If the opening day runs long, the flex sits in its 1-3-hour entries: shorten White Stone Cliff or Bajiao City, since Ganjia Secret Realm is the day’s only fixed 3-hour slot. If a whole day has to come out, Day 2 is the cleanest cut: Sangke Grassland (1-3 hours) and Guomang Wetland (1 hour) are short stops, and dropping them leaves every monastery, both scenic areas and the full Zhagana cluster intact.

Travellers with fewer than eight days should simplify around the scenic areas: keep Huanglong, Jiuzhaigou, Songzhou Ancient City and Taoping Qiang Village, and reduce the first half to Labrang Monastery and Zhagana. Anyone more drawn to the monastery-and-grassland half can cut the other way, dropping Day 6 or Day 8 and keeping the Langmusi pair and the Yellow River First Bend. Jiuzhaigou, the stop the route is named for, is the one day worth protecting in almost any cut-down version.
