Tickets and booking
The pack lists no booking platform, reservation system or ticketing app, so do not assume a specific channel — the official contact points given are the phone lines 0559-5561111 and 0559-2590999. What the pack does pin down is the price calendar: winter rates apply Dec 20–Jan 20 and peak rates Jan 21–Dec 19, so the date you commit to changes what you pay. Booking ahead is the reliable move for a park with a hard cutoff — footpath ticket gates stop admitting hikers at 15:00, after which the walking trails run exit-only. The pack also notes that prices posted on site take precedence over any list.
Entrance and routes
The gateway address is Tangquan Road 1, Tangkou Town, Huangshan District, Huangshan City, Anhui Province — Tangkou is where the South Gate sits, and it is the terminus of the coach from Huangshan North Railway Station. From there the pack names three ways up: the Yungu (Cloud Valley), Taiping and Yuping (Jade Screen) cableways, plus hiking footpaths with their own ticket gates. It does not map which cableway departs from which gate, so confirm on the ground. The one hard rule for walkers: trail gates close to new entries at 15:00 and go exit-only afterwards. The pack states no late-entry rule for the cableways, so verify rather than assume if you plan a late start.
Photo spots
The pack names no individual viewpoints, so anchor your shot list to what it does designate: the West Sea Grand Canyon sightseeing cable car, sold explicitly as a sightseeing ride, and the upper-mountain areas served by the Yungu, Taiping and Yuping cableways. Timing does the rest. Peak season (Mar 5–Nov 30) opens 07:00 on weekdays and 06:30 on weekends, closing at 17:10 and 17:40 respectively; winter hours (Dec 1–Mar 4) shrink to 08:00–16:40. Because trail gates stop admitting hikers at 15:00, late-day shooting on foot is only an option for those already inside — plan early entries for any walk-based photography.
Timing and crowds
Hours split three ways. Mar 5–Nov 30: 07:00–17:10 Mon–Fri and 06:30–17:40 Sat–Sun. Dec 1–Mar 4: 08:00–16:40 daily. Overlaid on that is the operational tip: the scenic area is large, touring takes a long time, and footpath gates stop admitting hikers at 15:00 with exit-only rules after. Two calendar quirks are worth planning around: Dec 1–19 runs on winter hours but still charges peak-season prices (winter pricing only starts Dec 20), and weekends open 30 minutes earlier than weekdays in the long season. The pack carries no visitor-volume data, so the published clock — not crowd assumptions — is the only scheduling signal to rely on.
Walking and effort
The pack publishes no distances, elevation figures or difficulty grades, so treat any step counts from other sources as unverified. What it does establish: the area is large enough that the official tip warns touring time is long, the suggested duration starts at 3 hours, and hiking is treated as a distinct entry class with its own ticket gates and a 15:00 admission cutoff. Read together, those rules mean a walking ascent needs an early start. The non-walking alternatives named in the pack are the Yungu, Taiping and Yuping cableways plus the West Sea Grand Canyon sightseeing cable car; the pack does not specify which route sections are walkable, lift-only, or both.
Getting there
The pack’s transit information is narrow but exact: scheduled coaches run between Huangshan North Railway Station and Huangshan Scenic Area (South Gate) in both directions. It publishes no frequencies, fares or journey times — confirm those through the scenic area phone lines, 0559-5561111 or 0559-2590999. The South Gate address, useful for drivers or ride-hailing, is Tangquan Road 1, Tangkou Town, Huangshan District, Huangshan City, Anhui Province. No other stations, airports or connecting services appear in the pack.
Cost breakdown
Entrance is 190 RMB in peak season (Jan 21–Dec 19) and 150 RMB in winter (Dec 20–Jan 20). Cableways are priced per single trip: Yungu and Taiping 80 RMB peak / 65 RMB winter; Yuping 90 RMB peak / 75 RMB winter; the West Sea Grand Canyon sightseeing cable car 100 RMB peak / 80 RMB winter. As arithmetic, a peak-season day with a round trip on Yungu or Taiping runs 190 + 2×80 = 350 RMB, or 370 RMB via Yuping; the winter equivalents are 280 and 300 RMB, and a single ride on the West Sea Grand Canyon cable car adds 100 RMB peak / 80 RMB winter.
Concessions, per the pack’s price notes: half price for minors aged 6–18, full-time undergraduate-and-below students, and seniors aged 60–65, all with valid ID; free admission for children under 6 or under 1.2 m tall, seniors over 65, active-duty and retired military, disabled visitors, and journalists, with credentials. The pack does not break out whether concessions cover cableways as well as entrance, and it states that posted on-site prices take precedence.
